Porth Capture Canary Rowley to replace Owen
Porthmadog have announced the capture of Caernarfon Town striker John Rowley as a ready-made replacement for Rhyl-bound Carl Owen.
The announcement follows the strong rumours that have been circulating around the North Wales Coast recently after Rowley began pre-season training with Paul Whelan's side. The forward from Llanberis enjoyed his best season at the Oval last year under Steve O'Shaughnessy and finished as the club's top goalscorer - And he even played in goal twice for the Canaries.
The striker signed for Caernarfon Town from his hometown club side and scored four goals in twenty matches in his first season at the club in 2005/2006. Last year was he best return at the club though, with a total of 15, including 10 in the League, 3 in the Loosemores Cup and 2 in the Welsh Cup. The 27 year-old made 60 (+ 20) Welsh Premier League appearances for the Cofis, scoring 16 League goals in total.
With the imminent departure of Carl Owen, probably to Rhyl, the arrival of a proven scorer will delight the Porth fans. They will also be delighted to hear that another ex-Caernarfon Town player has also signed.
Chris Jones, who was with Leeds Utd as a youngster, has also been recruited from relegated Llangefni Town. Jones is a former Wales Under 19 International winger, who spent just one season at Cae Bob Parry after his spell with the Canaries. The 22 year-old also played for Bournemouth and also played for Limerick in the League of Ireland. He has totalled 54 (+4) in the League, scoring 9 goals.
It is unlikely that another of Caernarfon's 2007/08 squad, Leyton Maxwell, will be joining the club as he has relocated to Cardiff. He has been training with Port Talbot Town and is thought to have preferred a move closer to his new home.
Caernarfon Town fans will be hoping to learn of new signings soon as they have seen Rowley and Maxwell as well as Nomads-bound, Phil Clarke, Craig Vernon, Lee Bamber and Keiron Quinn all head for the exit-door in the last week.
