Smyth returns to Citizens and is named in UEFA Cup Squad
Mark Smyth, the former Liverpool trainee who had a successful spell with Bangor City between December 2006 and October 2007 has re-signed for the Citizens and is named in their UEFA Cup squad of 22 players.
The attacking midfielder or striker played 10 (+3) times last season, scoring three goals but left the club after the Transfer Window shut in Wales, which left his ex-boss Nev Powell furious that he was unable to replace him. He joined his former boss Steve Bleasdale at Leigh RMI, who are now known as Leigh Genisis. The club is currently preparing for its first season in their stunning new 10,000 capacity stadium and will be a full time professional outfit next season in the Blue Square Conference North.
Ex-Rhyl defender Jamie Brewerton is also in the squad and he could be one of the few players to play in two UEFA Competitions in the same season, having played for Rhyl in the Intertoto Cup against Bohemians. He is given the Number 5 shirt, which may suggest that he will start the game next Thursday (17th) against FC Midtjylland at the Racecourse.
Nev Powell has named 20-year old ex-Llanfair PG goalkeeper Ben Heald as the reserve for regular incumbent Paul Smith, whilst another new face is former Colwyn Bay defender Joe Fowler. The Citizens have named four Youth products in their squad, with midfielders Mel McGinness and Caio Iwan - the son of Welsh Politician and Folk Singer Dafydd Iwan - as well as striker Clive Williams and defender Ben Ogilvy, who has also had spells with Caernarfon Town and Aberystwyth Town.

Welsh Cup hero Christian Seargeant, whose injury time equaliser against Llanelli helped Bangor reach the competition, will get another chance to play in Europe. He made it into David Moyes' Everton squad at the beginning of the 2005/06 season, and warmed the bench for the second leg of the Champions League qualifier against Villarreal.
