FAW clear up Bungle Transfer Saga

GAP Connah's Quay captain Chris Williams is now eligible to re-sign for the clubThe Football Association of Wales has confirmed that last season's GAP Connah's Quay captain Chris Williams is now eligible to re-sign for the club, after confusion surrounding his future last Friday.

The transfer saga came about after the FAW received an International Clearance request from the FA on Friday afternoon for the defender, which would have meant that the player had signed for a club under the FA's jurisdiction and that club was Kicks FC Wallsend, who play in the Tyneside Amateur League Division One.

The Tyneside club also announced the signing of the man known within the League as 'Bungle' on its Official Website. The FAW informed GAP Connah's Quay Secretary Trevor Green on Friday of the Request, although Williams was a Free Agent so allowed to move anywhere freely. Things were made even more confusing when Williams featured for the Nomads in a Pre-Season friendly against TNS on Saturday.

Williams was out of contract at the end of May and announced that he would be taking up a four-year Football Scholarship at Holy Names University, in Oakland, California in August, although he is still waiting for Visa clarification. He has been training in Wallsend to keep fit, as he is currently working in the area, but it is understood that Kicks applied for the International Clearance because Williams was training with the club. On Tuesday, the FA in Soho Square rescinded the International Clearance Request, making him eligible to re-sign for the Nomads with immediate affect.

He is expected to sign for Steve O'Shaughnessy's side this week and play for the club until his American Visa is granted. Williams is a hugely talented player and a charismatic individual, so it is good news for the League that he will be involved when the Season starts again in Mid-August.
