Former Rhyl skipper signs for the Bloods

Former Rhyl skipper George Horan has signed for Blue Square North side Droylsden, after cancelling his contract with Rhyl last week.

Horan spent four and a half years at the club and will be fondly remembered by Lilywhites fans for lifting the Principality Welsh Premier League trophy for the Belle Vue club last season.

The Chester born stopper signed for Rhyl from Connah's Quay Nomads on 4th June 2005 and was recognised as one of the best defenders in the League after four outstanding seasons at the club.

His progress at Belle Vue was highlighted by the fact that he was the Phil Stanley Player of the Year in his first season at the club in 2005/06 and he was then made captain of the Lilywhites following Timmy Edwards' departure from the club.

He has had considerable experience in the League of Wales playing 147 times for the Nomads and scoring 14 times, but he made his League debut in the 1999/00 season for Bangor City, for whom he played just twice.

Horan made his debut for Rhyl in the UEFA Cup First Qualifying Round match at Belle Vue against FK Atlantas (Lithuania) in a match they won 2-1 and he went on to make over 150 starts for the Lilywhites in the League.

The centre-back links up with the Bloods, who are currently sixth in the table, and joins former Welsh Premier League players Steve Beck, Liam Brownhill, Kevin Townson and Carl Lamb at the club.
